Since the 1962 Chad Valley "Disneyland" set was wholly unique, not duplicating anything from Kenner, I'm presenting it here in four parts, with the checklist in the first part!
17 - BAMBI 18 - MICKEY MOUSE 19 - CHIP 'N' DALE 20 - DUMBO 21 - SNOW WHITE AND DOPEY 22 - LADY AND THE TRAMP 23 - PINCOCCHIO 24 - PLUTO 25 - DONALD DUCK 26 - GOOFY 27 - HUEY, LOUIE AND DEWEY 28 - THUMPER 29 - FIGARO 30 - GUS AND JACK 31 - PETER PAN AND TINKERBELL 32 - MONTY AND MORTY
Apparently Mickey's nephews Morty and Ferdie were known as Monty and Morty in the UK! Here's the part one video:
Here's the rest of the unique slides in Chad Valley's 1963 2nd Edition set:
Here's the checklist for Chad Valley's 1963 2nd Edition:
65 - POPEYE "VICTORY AT SEA" 66 - WOODY WOODPECKER "JETTY PROPULSION" 67 - ALADDIN'S LAMP 68 - THE BOY WHO CRIED WOLF 69 - MAD HATTER'S TEA PARTY 70 - DICK TRACY MISSING MASTERPIECE 71 - ANDY PANDY'S NEW PLAY BOX 72 - WHIRLY BIRDS "AIR SKI RESCUE" 73 - DICK TURPIN'S RIDE TO YORK 74 - FURY ADVENTURE WITH OUTLAW STALLION 75 - THE BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR 76 - JOAN OF ARC 77 - NODDY'S NEW UMBERELLA 78 - PINKY AND PERKY AND FRIENDS 79 - LASSIE IN SIGN FOR SAFETY 80 - ROY ROGERS MAY THE BEST MAN WIN
And the Kenner 1962 set that's the equivalent to this:
1-Popeye and Olive Oyl-Victory at Sea 2-Three Stooges-Monster Monkey Business 3-Kenner Kids-Dive into Danger 4-Rocky and Bullwinkle-The Astronut 5-Woody Woodpecker-Jetty Propulsion 6-Roy Rogers-Mark of the Big Cat 7-Kenner Kids-Everglades Adventure 8-Huckleberry Hound and Yogi Bear-Poor Picnic Pickin's 9-Mr. Magoo-Magoo Gets a Checkup 10-Classics-Aladdin's Lamp 11-Dick Tracy-Case of the Missing Masterpiece 12-Mr. Ed-A Hitchin' Ed's Plans 13-Fury-Adventure With an Outlaw Stallion 14-Deputy Dawg-Bait From Outer Space 15-Mighty Mouse-A Whale of a Job 16-Classics-The Boy Who Cried Wolf
So, we see that both sets had the Popeye set, while once again, the Stooges, Kenner Kids, and Rocky and Bullwinkle are dropped. THe Woody Woodpecker one is in there, but Kenner's Roy Rogers slide is missing (and replaced by an entirely original Roy Rogers slide!). The Huckleberry Hound & Yogi, Mister Magoo, Mr. Ed, Deputy Dawg, and Mighty Mouse slides are also dropped from the Chad Valley set. Something I didn't realize when putting this video together was that the Roy Rogers, Lassie and Whirlybirds slides were featured in Kenner's Super Show Projector set. I guess I should've waited a few days until the Super Show set I won on eBay showed up?
Here's the rest of the unique Chad Valley slides from their 1962 "Kaleidoscope" set -- minus Oliver Twist, which apparently Kevin Law didn't have in his set (or at least didn't have it when I created the video).
Here's what Chad Valley had in their set:
K1 - KALEIDOSCOPE SLIDE 1 K2 - KALEIDOSCOPE SLIDE 2 K3 - KALEIDOSCOPE SLIDE 3 K4 - KALEIDOSCOPE SLIDE 4 33 - UNION DRUMMER BOY 35 - THE WIZARD OF OZ 36 - ROBIN HOOD MEETS LITTLE JOHN 37 - TOM SAWYER AND HUCK FINN 38 - WILLIAM TELL 39 - STOWAWAY IN SPACE 40 - AESOP'S LION AND THE MOUSE 42 - TREASURE ISLAND 43 - POPEYE "BIGTOP BULLS-EYE" 45 - LASSIE "DEADLY ATTACKER" 46 - POPEYE "DAY AT THE SEASHORE" 47 - WOODY WOODPECKER "GERONIMO" 48 - ROY ROGERS "TRIGGER'S CLOSE CALL" 49 - LASSIE BRINGS AN URGENT MESSAGE 50 - ROY ROGERS "HORSE THIEVES" 51 - ANDY PANDA 52 - SOOTY AND HIS BOAT 53 - THE LONE RANGER 54 - SOOTY & SWEEP AT THE FAIRGROUND 55 - NODDY'S DAY AT SCHOOL 56 - ANDY PANDY AND THE BALLOONS 57 - SCOTT AND THE ANTARCTIC 58 - LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD 59 - SPEED RECORDS 60 - SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD 61 - GUY FAWKES 62 - NODDY AT THE SEASIDE 63 - ANDY PANDY AND THE DOVECOTE 64 - OLIVER TWIST
This set is really difficult to compare to Kenner's product. I'm guessing the Kaleido-Slides were the same, but where it gets weird is where things came from. They were also in a completely different set than the other slides that are the same! Here's the 1961 "Blue" set from Kenner:
1-Huckleberry Hound-The One That Got Away 2-Popeye-A Day at the Seashore 3-Woody Woodpecker-Geronimo! 4-Three Stooges-Go To the Dogs 5-Rocky and Bullwinkle-A Ball for Boris 6-Lassie-Urgent Message 7-Mighty Mouse-Canaveral Capers 8-Classics-Peter Pan Foils Captain Hook 9-Casper the Friendly Ghost-He Who Laughs Last… 10-Heckle and Jeckle-Rough Stuff 11-Andy Panda-Balooney Business 12-Baby Huey-Wreckless Driver 13-Kenner Kids-The Haunted Mine 14-Roy Rogers-Trigger Has a Close Call 15-Captain Kangaroo-Bunny's Crazy Crop 16-Bozo-Bozo Booms a Bum 17-Classics-The Wizard of Oz 18-Classics-Robin Hood Meets Little John 19-Classics-Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn 20-Classics-William Tell 21-N/A-Stowaway in Space 22-Aesop's Fable-The Lion and the Mouse 23-N/A-Deadly Boomerang 24-N/A-Union Drummer Boy 25-Classics-Treasure Island 26-Popeye-Big Top Bullseye 27-Woody Woodpecker-Whew! 28-Three Stooges-Where There's Smoke… There's Fire? 30-Rocky and Bullwinkle-Bully for Bullwinkle 31-Roy Rogers-Headache for the Horse Thieves 32-Bozo-Joy Ride for Jumbo
Obviously, some messing around was done! OK, so the Chad Valley set was missing the Huckleberry Hound, both Three Stooges, both Rocky and Bullwinkles, Lassie (the Chad Valley set has a different Lassie slide), Mighty Mouse, Peter Pan, Casper, Heckle and Jeckle, Andy Panda, Baby Huey, Kenner Kids, Captain Kangaroo, both Bozo the Clowns, and one of the Roy Rogers slides, plus the "Deadly Boomerang" story that I believe was really the first "Kenner Kids" slide.
Here's part one of two featuring Chad Valley's unique slides in their 1962 "Kaleidoscope" set. Tomorrow, I'll go over what was different between the Chad Valley and Kenner Sets!
Celebrating Kenner's Give-A-Show Projector and Similar Toys!
I'm a collector of Kenner's Give-A-Show Projector sets, and have decided to create this blog to provide sort of an online archive of this wonderful toy and related items!
The oldest sets posted here are series of single pictures, but I hope to upgrade those posts to video form sometime in the near future!
