Thanks to good buddy Kevin Law (aka Lefty), the proprietor of The most comprehensive Chad Valley Give a Show Projector Resource on the Web, I have images available from Chad Valley's Give-A-Show Projector sets to make videos out of!
Today's selection for this blog are the unique 1961 slides. When Chad Valley licensed the Give-A-Show Projector, they apparently figured not all of the USA slides would be of interest to the UK kids, so some were replaced! More on that after the video:
OK, so you're wondering, what was the difference between this and the equivalent USA set? Well, here's what was in this set:
1 - POPEYE TO THE RESCUE
2 - CINDERELLA
3 - A DAY IN THE LIFE OF NODDY
4 - WOODY WOODPECKER - "GO GO GOAT"
5 - GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS
6 - ROBINSON CRUSOE
7 - OSWALD RABBIT "BUG GAME HUNTER"
8 - BUFFALO BILL SKINS THE THIEVES
9 - WILD BILL HICKOK in “DEADLY AMBUSH”
10 - KIT CARSON in “INDIAN ATTACK”
11 - MAVERICK TAKES A GAMBLE
12 - WYATT EARP in “GUNMAN’S CHOICE”
13 - ANNIE OAKLEY in “SHOOT-OUT”
14 - HANSEL and GRETEL
15 - R.C.M.P. THEY ALWAYS GET THEIR MAN
16 - ROBIN HOOD and the GOLDEN ARROW
And here's what Kenner had in their 1960 set this was taken from:
1-Popeye-Popeye To The Rescue
2-Three Stooges-Moon Man Moe
3-Yogi Bear-All At Sea
4-Woody Woodpecker-Go, Go, Goat!
5-Huckleberry Hound-Jinks' Surprise
6-Quick Draw McGraw-Two Heads are Better Than One
7-Oswald-Bug Game Hunter
8-Buffalo Bill-Skins the Thieves
9-Wild Bill Hickock-Deadly Ambush
10-Kit Carson-Indian Attack
11-Maverick-Take a Gamble
12-Wyatt Earp-Gunman's Choice
13-Annie Oakley-Shoot-Out
14-Classics-Hansel & Gretel
15-Classics-Pinocchio
16-Classics-Cinderella
So, the Three Stooges were dropped, and Cinderella moved in their place. Yogi Bear was replaced by Noddy, Huckleberry Hound was replaced by Goldilocks, Quick Draw was replaced by Robinson Crusoe, Hansel and Gretel were in both sets (I'd forgotten that, which is why they're on the video), and RCMP (i.e. Royal Canadian Mounted Police, a Canadian children's show from the mid to late 1950s) and Robin Hood filled the spots that Pinocchio was replaced with and Cinderella left vacant when she was moved to position two!
